Atul Foundation 2017-18

Chairperson's foreword Dear Members, As Atul completes 70 years of incorporation, it gives me immense pleasure in presenting the 2017-18 Annual Report of Atul Foundation. While it is a moment of pride, we are also seized of our responsibility towards the lesser privileged, marginalised and vulnerable. Our commitment to contribute towards the development of the communities we serve dates back to our inception. Our Founder, Kasturbhai Lalbhai, dedicated a significant amount of time to social service and firmly believed in business enterprises as a means to serve society. One of the purposes of establishing Atul was to provide employment to the people living in and around the firstmanufacturing site at Atul. Over the years, while the business and social environment has undergone drastic change, we remain steadfast in our philosophy of business beyond profit. During 2017-18, Atul Foundation has constructed 1,500 individual household toilets in 21 villages with a cumulative figure of 3,500 toilets in 25 villages over a 3 year period. The Foundation undertook several other projects | initiatives during 2017-18 which, amongst others, comprised adopting ITIs in Ankleshwar AND Bilimora (Gujarat) under the PPP model, renovating a school, extending support - monetary (tuition fees, etc) and nonmonetary (notebooks, etc), imparting vocational training to women (beauty and styling, data entry, garment making, etc), constructing roads, planting saplings, upgradingmedical equipment in a hospital, and providing medical aid. As part of its endeavour to serve people in other states, the Foundation extended its footprint in Karnataka andMaharashtra. Atul is inspired by its legacy and is mindful of its responsibilities. We hope that in all that we do, we reflect our commitment to the core values of empathy, integrity, benevolence, collaboration and quality in letter and spirit. I express my gratitude to the Government of Gujarat and the donors for their support to Atul Foundation. One in every five Indian lives below the poverty line, and I look forward to workingwith you tomake a difference to their lives.
